About the Role
Our clients are established testing and commissioning firms serving the electric utility industry. They need experienced Lead Test Engineers to run substation protection and controls projects, lead field crews, and act as the technical authority on testing before results go to the utility.
What You’ll Do
- Lead project teams in the field and mentor technicians in substation protection theory and application
- Independently test relay protection elements
- Verify CT and PT ratios, phasing, polarity, and single-point grounds
- Perform control circuitry tests and confirm station phasing and equipment orientation
- Read and work from one-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams
- Build and run relay test routines in Protection Suite, Test Universe, RTS, and similar tools
- Create protection isolation plans and client-specific commissioning procedures
- Review team test results for accuracy before submission
- Manage project man-hours and forecasts, and report to the Project Manager
- Work with engineering to find and correct design errors or gaps
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on substation relay testing and P&C commissioning experience
- Proven crew leadership and mentoring
- Organized, detail-focused, and calm under pressure
- Strong communication with clients and field teams
Compensation & Benefits
- $70–$85/hour
- Per diem, company truck or vehicle stipend, and full benefits (specifics vary by location)
